OUR INDUSTRY
The bromine industry
At the time of the creation of BSEF, in 1997, the international
distribution of bromine production was as follows:

In recent years, the United State's portion of world production
has decreased considerably as Israel has strengthened its position
as the world largest producers of elemental bromine.
Overall three companies account for around 78% of the world production
(Source: USGS Minerals Information 2003). As regards bromine world
resources, they are believed to be virtually unlimited. Notably
the Dead Sea in the Middle East contains over 1 billion tons of
bromine and the seawater contains an estimated 100 trillion tons.
The Brominated Flame Retardant industry
By far the most important market for bromine is the production
of brominated flame retardants (BFRs).
BFRs are produced mainly by three companies in the following parts
of the world:

Albemarle |
Chemtura |
