EFRA statement: EFRA shows concern regarding the reduction of fire safety standards for televisions

Proposed amendments to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards 60065 and 62368 for candle ignition-resistant plastic enclosures for televisions have been voted down by the TC108 National Committee. EFRA is disappointed with the result as these standards would have increased the fire safety of televisions in people’s homes, reducing the potential for house fires and ultimately increasing consumer protection. At the EU level, EN 60065 has been in place since July 2010, ensuring the reduction and elimination of fuel load contributions to house fires.

EFRA hopes to see this standard adopted at a global level in the future.
