Deca-BDE and Voluntary Emissions Control and reduction Action Programme (VECAP)
A voluntary programme, VECAP, was initiated in 2004 to control and reduce industrial emissions in partnership with Deca-BDE user industries in Europe.
In 2010, users in Europe representing 92% of Deca-BDE volume consumed were covered by VECAP™. Overall, potential emissions in Europe have remained steady in relation to the 2009 survey, while the volume has slightly decreased. However, the volume covered by VECAP in 2010 has notably increased by 16%.
The programme is set for 10 years and provides, for the first time, clear data on Deca-BDE in the environment. This program is already following the REACH principles which request the engagement of downstream users in emissions control.
