Deca-BDE and Voluntary Emissions Control and reduction Action Programme (VECAP)

A voluntary programme, VECAP, was initiated in 2005 to control and reduce industrial emissions in partnership with Deca-BDE user industries in Europe.

In 2009, users in Europe representing 66% of Deca-BDE volume consumed were covered by VECAP™. Between 2008 and 2009, overall potential emissions to the environment and water in Europe were reduced from 3,432kg to 1,220kg.

The program is set for 10 years and provides, for the first time, clear data on Deca-BDE in the environment. This program is already following the REACH principles which request the engagement of downstream users in emissions control.
