    ANNUAL VECAP PROGRESS REPORT DELIVERS IMPROVED RESULTS

    The Voluntary Emissions Control Action Programme (VECAP) European Annual Progress Report, released today, shows a significant overall reduction in potential emissions of flame retardants to the environment; representing the most significant achievement in the programme since its beginning.

"Brominated flame retardants". Rarely has there been so much discussion about a group of chemical products. In the 1990's various allegations were being made about brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and bromine in general. The producers of bromine were concerned to investigate the key issues, believing in some cases that concerns were valid and action needed to be taken and in some cases that allegations were overblown for political reasons. BSEF’s remit is to ensure that the best available scientific information is used when addressing these issues.
